Thanks to its location in the center of the country and investments by logistics and e-commerce companies, Lodz could become a Polish distribution center. An opportunity for the development of this city and region may be EU funds in the next EU budget perspective.
In the coming years there will be considerable warehouse and terminal investments in the Lodz agglomeration. Supporting the logistics industry is part of this city's development strategy. Lodz is counting on infrastructure investments including railroads in the next EU budget perspective.
- Much work needs to be done to integrate the various modes of transportation, road rail and air. It is also necessary to develop infrastructure for intermodal transport. For example, a rail line to the airport that could handle cargo would be useful. Currently, 3 industrial zones are developing in the Lodz area, where Panattoni, among others, is investing. We believe that Lodz terminals could handle more trains to and from China. Big players in the logistics industry like DHL, as well as global e-commerce companies, are investing in our city. Thanks to these investments and the developed infrastructure, in a few years Lodz can serve as a distribution center for Poland," said Adam Pustelnik, deputy mayor of Lodz, during the RailFreight webinar.
For several years, the importance of this city on the map of rail intermodal connections has been growing. Lodz has become one of the destinations of the New Silk Road, and connections to ports are also developing. This is prompting logistics operators to invest in the city.
- Łódź is located in the center of Poland, so it is a good place for logistics investments. Here we plan to build a modern intermodal terminal with an area of 6.4 hectares, equipped with 2 siding tracks, ultimately 2 container cranes, 3-4 reachsteckers. A modern warehouse area will be built next to the terminal. We believe that Lodz can play the role of a distribution center, as there are no such problems with congestion here as at border crossings, and the location provides convenient access to all of Poland," commented Marcin Czachorowski director of development for Contargo in Poland and president of the board of directors of Contargo Hatrans Lodz Sp. z o.o.
